Introduction:
AGHE membership is institutional rather than individual, as a result, one person from each AGHE member institution is selected as the official representative to AGHE – this person is referred to as the Institutional Representative. In the event an Institutional Representative cannot attend an AGHE Annual Meeting or provide a vote on the member institutions behalf, the designated Alternate Representative assumes the responsibilities of the Institutional Representative.
Choosing an Alternative Representative:
The Institutional Representative at each AGHE member institution should first and foremost designate a colleague at their institution to act in the capacity of an alternative representative. Once chosen, this name and pertinent contact information should be relayed to the AGHE office.
The Alternative Representative has the following responsibilities:
1. In the absence of the Institutional Representative, serves as the voting representative of the member institution for all AGHE elections and business.
2. Acts on behalf of the Institutional Representative in fulfilling all Institutional Representative Guidelines put forth by AGHE (see Institutional Representative Guidelines Document)
3. Assists the Institutional Representative with selecting additional persons from the member institution to serve in the capacity of Alternative Representative, Public Policy Representative, Student Representative, and Affiliate Representatives (see additional information provided), to ensure broad based institutional communication and distribution of AGHE related information.
4. Ensures distribution of AGHE materials and educational information to the Member Institution community partners
5. Assists the Institutional Representative with publicizing AGHE resources, activities, and benefits through appropriate communications, such as newsletters, e-mail announcements, or bulletin boards.
6. Considers AGHE Committee involvement and participation to assist in ensuring that AGHE meets the needs of all member institutions advancing gerontology/geriatric education in higher education
7. Attends the AGHE Annual Meeting/Conference when possible or in the absence of the Institutional Representative
